Md. heat deaths tie last year's number
The number of people to die of heat-related causes this year in Maryland has reached six.
That's the same number of heat deaths as recorded for all of 2009.
Virginia and the District of Columbia have already surpassed last year for heat-related deaths, with three recorded in Virginia and one in D.C.
Meanwhile, a new heat wave is beginning in the Washington area. Officials are urging residents to be careful and drink lots of water during Fourth of July celebrations.
