Md. schools finalist in Race to the Top

Maryland has joined the District and 17 other states as finalists in the Obama administration's Race to the Top school reform competition, federal officials say.
At stake is a share in $3.4 billion in funding for innovations. Winners will be announced in September. Virginia is not competing.
