Memorial held for slain principal
D.C. Public Schools conducted a memorial service for Brian Betts, a principal who was killed in his Maryland home April 15.
The service for the popular leader of Shaw at Garnet-Patterson Middle School was held Saturday morning at the Music Center at Strathmore in North Bethesda.The memorial originally was slated for Cardozo Senior High School but was moved so more people could attend.
Betts was killed in his Silver Spring home April 15. Police believe at least two people were involved in the killing.
Betts joined Shaw Middle School in northwest D.C. in the 2008-2009 academic year from Montgomery County schools. Schools Chancellor Michelle Rhee called him an inspirational leader for teachers and students.
