National Aquarium expecting a baby dolphin
Good news out of Baltimore today.
The National Aquarium announced that Jade, its Atlantic bottle-nosed dolphin is expecting a little bundle of joy.
Aquarium experts estimate that the dolphin will be born between now and mid-March. The aquarium's staff and 50 trained volunteers have begun dolphin pregnancy watch -- 24-hour observations to monitor Jade for signs of labor. Careful monitoring is critical because about one-third of baby dolphins -- or, rather, dolphin calves -- do not live to their first birthday. Seven members of the aquarium's dolphin colony were born at the aquarium.
