No bail in Baltimore officer death

By Washington Post editors

A judge has denied bail for a 25-year-old man accused of killing an off-duty Baltimore police detective during an argument over a parking space.

Sian James is accused of throwing a piece of concrete that struck Detective Brian Stevenson in the side of the head, killing him. The two had argued over a parking space Saturday night in Baltimore’s Canton neighborhood, a popular nightlife district.

Associate District Judge Charles Chiapparelli ordered James held without bond during a hearing Monday morning at Baltimore’s booking center.

James has no previous convictions but was indicted in July on an attempted rape charge. He was out on $150,000 bond.
