One found dead after house fire in NW
Updated, 10:10 p.m.
A man died Saturday night in a house fire in Northwest Washington, the D.C. fire department said.
The fire broke out about 8:15 p.m. in the kitchen of a house in the unit block of Madison Street NW, said department spokesman Pete Piringer.
A woman on the second floor heard a smoke alarm and went down to the kitchen to find her husband's clothing on fire, Piringer said. She beat out the flames, then went to a neighbor's house to call for help.
The fire was quickly extinguished, but the man was found dead in the kitchen, Piringer said. The woman was taken to a hospital with burns.
The couple were not identified immediately.
