WTOP.com says that "Trains are no longer stopping at the station." and "Metro is in the process of coordinating shuttle buses around the station."
Posted by: EnjoyEverySandwich | March 4, 2010 7:33 PM | Report abuse
whyohwhy, it's my understanding via Twitter and UnsuckDCMetro that trains are running through the Pentagon station, but not stopping.

A little more info? Saw a flash saying Pentgaon in lock down.
If the shots were outside the station - does that mean INSIDE the pentagon?
(I've never exited a train there - so I don't know if it exits INSIDE the pentagon.

The metro station with the most cops standing around doing nothing is the one where multiple people get shot. Good ol' Pentagon Police.

Even on 9/11, Metro trains ran thru the station, without stopping.

@Justice26 - Yes, the building was on lockdown. I'm inside and we just got the ok to leave. However, we have to walk to Pentagon City and catch Metro buses. Nice evening 4 it I suppose. Hope the officers r ok.

WaPo, I understand the need for advertising on your site, but to run an ad on a breaking news page, where readers have to take another step to get to the story, is not reasonable.

So, why is this news? We're talking Virginia here people, where gun toting nutters can have a nightcap, or ten, at the local pub.

"Does this metro station only have access from inside the pentagon?"
The metro station is not inside the pentagon. The escalator puts you close to where the buses stop.

@Tess, I think you need to put aside your emotions and look at facts. The amount of gun-related violence in D.C. is enormous in comparison to Arlington and the rest of Northern Virginia. "Gun toting nutters?" Wow, still fighting the Civil War, are we?
Posted by: 123home123 | March 4, 2010 8:23 PM | Report abuse
@Justice26, there used to be an escalator from the station up into the building but that was sealed off after 9/11.

It is news, pinhead, because it is happening in Virginia. If it was in DC or PG County, it would hardly be Breaking News on CNN and other outlets. It would be just another day in the 'hood.

thanks - i always wondered whether it was enclosed and whether you could access it - as a member of the public.
FairTaxEd - it does make one wonder. It would seem that of all places the military locations should be safer (Ft. Hood?)

I was waiting for my bus at 6:35 this evening when I heard a loud pop or two, which I instinctively thought was construction noise. Then it was followed by more pops which sounded like fireworks and then silence. It's only when I heard yelling and saw officers with guns drawn did I realize that it was gunfire that I had heard. It was a very scary few minutes because no one knew what was going on and there were cops running around with weapons drawn. I didn't know if it was an attempted act of terrorism or something else.
Within literally one minute, there were sirens and police cars swarming everywhere and some officers came and told all of us waiting at the bus stops that we had to move away, which everyone did quickly and orderly. I walked to Pentagon City, and I was mercifully able to catch my bus from there.
My condolences to the officers injured and to their families and I hope they pull through. I can definitely say that the first responders were very quick and we should all be grateful to people like that who rush into a very, very dangerous situations. Sometimes it is easy to forget just how dangerous a police officer's job can be. Thank you to all people who have jobs like that to keep everyone safe.

Such sad news. Hopefully the 2 police officers will make a speedy full recovery.
Let me just make this clear: there's no Metro station inside the Pentagon! That would be insane! Terrorists would be lining up to attack the building via the Metro.

The Pentagon is in Virginia, a state in which it is quite easy to purchase guns. Before you post again, you might be mindful of the old adage that it is better to remain silent and be thought a fool than to speak and remove all doubt.

screwjob11,
The sissified gun haters don't relate to logic. It will make no difference to these wusses when it comes out that the shooter had no carry card and, probably, had not legally purchased his weapon. They want to disarm everyone so that somehow in the little alternative universe that they live it, even criminals won't have guns.
God bless the two officers and their families. May they make a swift recovery with no permanent injuries.
Hopefully, the shooter is bleeding to death on an OR table as we speak.

Most of the security guards are fat minorities on their cell phones. I actually saw a woman watching a dvd player one morning. I'm surprised they knew how to fire their weapon!

There have been very few facts released about the circumstances of the shooting and the identity of the suspect and the liberal gun control freaks are already blaming the NRA, the Tea Party movement and the 2nd Amendment right to keep and bear arms. It could have just as easily been a liberal who hates the military who fired at the two officers, in fact, it is probably much more likely. Personally, I wish the best for the two wounded officers. I have entered the Pentagon via that particular Metro station myself. I am thankful that we have vigilant men and women protecting it.

Ah, the political meatheads proving my point yet again. Human life is no matter when political points can be made.
And for those that are using their anti-gun rants against the state of Virginia, yes, the Pentagon is in VA. But, where is the Holocaust Museum? And where was Gilbert Arenas storing his guns at? Terrorists have such short-term memory issues and geography problems. When it doesn't involve Democrats or Republicans, you folks have no mental capacity whatsoever.
Screwjob, if there were more people like you, this country would be a much better place. Unfortunately these message boards prove how far down this country has fallen. The terrorists are running the show.

Sorry to hear there's a shooting, but does that mean that the trains are still running through the station but not stopping, or does that mean everyone has to get off and take a shuttle bus?
