Pilot killed in crash near Annapolis
A man was killed near Annapolis in the crash of a single-engine airplane, the Anne Arundel County fire department said.
The airplane crashed and burned in the yard of a house at the end of Warehouse Creek Lane in the Edgewater area, said fire department division chief Michael Cox. He said the fuselage of the plane came to rest about three or four feet from the house but did not strike the structure. One person who was in the house at the time of the 4:20 p.m. crash was uninjured, Cox said.
The fire was quickly extinguished by county firefighters, but the pilot was pronounced dead at the scene, he said.
The cause of the crash was under investigation Saturday by state and federal authorities, Cox said. The site is near a creek leading from the South River and near a small airport.
