Police officer faces child porn charges

By Washington Post editors

Manassas City police say a veteran U.S. Capitol Police officer is facing child pornography charges after a four-month investigation, WJLA reports.

Dennis Bell, 55, was arrested Thursday and charged with one count of distribution of child pornography and one count of possession of child pornography.

The investigation began in December, when computer detectives in Manassas began looking into child pornography being distributed on the Internet, police said. Investigators were able to trace the source to an address in Woodbridge, and obtained a search warrant, police said. Officers raided Bell's home Thursday and recovered computers containing child pornography, police said.

Bell was being held at the Prince William Adult Detention Center on a $20,000 bond. He was due in court May 25.

Maybe he was just doing some research off the clock, and was really planning to help save children??

"computer detectives in Manassas"

When did every small-town police department suddenly get "computer detectives" who spend all day on line?

Is there some kind of DHS grant program that makes this a money-maker for local departments?
