Police: Stolen car driven into police car

By Terri Rupar

A Montgomery County police officer was injured Friday night when a stolen car was driven into a police car, a county police spokesman said.

Capt. Paul Starks, a spokesman for the county police, said two people were taken into custody in the incident, which began about 9:40 p.m. in the Gaithersburg area.

A third person was being sought late Friday, Starks said.

He said that based on preliminary accounts, the officer’s injuries were not believed to be life-threatening.

Starks said the matter began when police spotted a car that they suspected was stolen, and tried to stop it. The car did not stop and instead attempted to elude officers, Starks said. As the incident unfolded, Starks said, the car was driven head-on into a police car in the vicinity of West Diamond Avenue.

One person was seized while in the car, Starks said. Two others from the car fled, and a search began, he said. One of them was later taken into custody at a house in the area, he said.
