Deal for parkway shooting suspect?
A possible plea bargain is in the works for a Stuarts Draft man facing a federal murder charge in the shooting death of a man at a Blue Ridge Parkway overlook.
Ralph Leon Jackson had been scheduled for trial Friday. Court records show U.S. District Judge Samuel Wilson in Harrisonburg continued the case so the 57-year-old Jackson's lawyers can present a plea deal to a Justice Department panel.
Attorneys indicated they expect to learn after meeting with the panel Jan. 31 whether the government will approve the deal or seek the death penalty. The new trial date is Feb. 22.
Jackson is accused of shooting 27-year-old Timothy Phillip Davis of Charlottesville and 18-year-old Christina Shay Floyd of Palmyra from behind on April 5 as they sat on a wall at the Rock Point Overlook. Davis tumbled about 150 feet off the overlook and later died.
