'Screen on the Green' in jeopardy
Fans have launched a grass-roots campaign to save the annual "Screen on the Green," the outdoor movie festival that showcases free classic movies on the Mall, WAMU reports.
Jesse Rauch heads the Save the Screen on the Green campaign. Rauch says HBO has not confirmed it will offer the free movies on the Mall this summer.
Last year HBO nearly canceled the festival because of funding. HBO did not return calls for comment.
There are other outdoor movies throughout the city, but Rauch says none are quite like Screen on the Green. Rauch has organized a group of more than 4,000 Facebook fans who are writing letters and reaching out to potential co-sponsors.
