Small plane goes off runway in Md.
A pilot was trapped inside of a small plane Thursday evening after it ran off a private runway in the Brandywine area, Prince George's County fire officials said.
Firefighters were call to the 15200 block of Letcher Road about 7:30 p.m., where they found an "ultra light aircraft" in the woods near a runway, said Mark Brady, a fire department spokesman.
The incident happened at a private residence as the plane was taking off, Maryland State police said. The man who was piloting the plane suffered a broken back, police said. Mark Brady said the pilot is in his 50s and was taken to a hospital with serious, but non-life threatening injuries.
State police are investigating the incident.
