Smithsonian to display J.D. Salinger portrait
The Smithsonian's National Portrait Gallery will display a portrait of author J.D. Salinger, who died Wednesday at the age of 91.
The portrait of the author of "The Catcher in the Rye," will be displayed in a first-floor gallery designated for remembrance of people who have died recently.
The portrait depicts Salinger against a metaphorical amber wave of grain. The image by Robert Vickery, orginally appeared on the cover of Time magazine in 1961.
