Stabbing suspect won't be extradited soon

By Washington Post Editors

An Israeli suspected in a series of stabbings in three states is not expected to be extradited to Michigan any time soon.

Michigan State Police Lt. Stephen Sipes tells The Associated Press Saturday that Elias Abuelazam is “not going to be brought back today, tomorrow or Monday.” Sipes says authorities have 15 days in which to return the 33-year-old to the state where 14 of the 18 attacks occurred. Others were in Ohio and Virginia. Abuelazam waived extradition Friday in Atlanta.

He was arrested Wednesday at an Atlanta airport as he was about to board a flight to Israel.
Abuelazam is charged with assault with intent to murder in the stabbing of a man in Flint, about 50 miles northwest of Detroit.

Five men died in the attacks. More charges are expected.

Buffalo Police Alert Drivers of Potential Gang Crimes

by Jennifer Stanonis

July 9, 2010

Many people are on alert after the Buffalo Police Department sent out a safety warning to drivers. A new gang in the area may have gang initiation activities in the city of Buffalo and surrounding communities, which includes the entire Western New York area. "They are considered very very dangerous... they are typically very well armed," Buffalo Police Commissioner H. McCarthy Gipson said Wednesday evening.

BUFFALO, N.Y. -- Eight people leaving a party at a downtown Buffalo restaurant were shot early Saturday, four of them fatally, including a Texas man who had returned to his hometown to celebrate his first wedding anniversary, police said.

"It was horrible seeing members of our community lying in the street," the mayor said.

The window of an office next to the Main Street restaurant was shattered, as was glass at a light-rail stop across the street.

"Nobody knows why," Martin said. "Somebody else was just shooting in a crowd."

Yeah, kids get shot up in Salinas and Watsonville too, and nobody ever knows anything.
