Student allegedly sold guns outside Metro

By Washington Post editors

Police confirmed that an undercover Montgomery County police detective bought four handguns from a Montgomery College student outside the Bethesda Metro station during four sting operations earlier this year, the Washington Examiner reports.

The guns were sold by David Bonett, a 22-year-old Mount Airy man who was arrested on gun-related charges April 28, authorities said in documents filed in Greenbelt's federal court. The documents were recently filed so authorities could obtain a search warrant of the house on Detrick Road where Bonett lives with his parents. His mother answered the phone and said neither she nor her son would talk about the case.

A Montgomery County police spokeswoman confirmed the detective's role but would not comment further on an open investigation.

Don't worry, the NRA will pay for his lawyer.

Don't worry, jckdoors or any other bigot out there. Rest assured that the NRA will have nothing to do with criminals like this guy. You can change your underwear, now.

Go figure.... redneck selling guns at the Metro :) These kids never learn (whether it be white, black, yellow, green). The way to make the quick buck has now hurt this kid. it's sad but true that today's youth are just plain idiotic!

I have read about crime committed by youths today in the wapo. My ears are hurting. Where are their mamas.

Where does the story say this guy is a redneck? Are you implying that because he is from Mt. Airy? Seems pretty obvious who the real bigot is here.

This makes no sense, I mean really, the Metro?

I'm fairly sure that it's not illegal for a Md resident to engage in a private handgun sale. I'm not even sure they have to worry about a NICS check, for a private sale. Just documenting the transaction properly.

He must have run afoul of territorial issues like "carrying a handgun within 500 feet of a Metro station".

Wow. Bethesda is a fancy town. I'm surprised.

Well, what is Metro going to do to prevent their stations from becoming NRA outlets?
