Frederick declares snow emergency

By Washington Post editors

The mayor of Frederick has declared a snow emergency for the city, effective 2 p.m. on Thursday, because of difficulty in clearing roads.

Mayor Randy McClement said the extended extreme cold in the area has kept the chemicals used to melt snow and ice from effectively working on city streets. City government offices and facilities are operating on a liberal leave policy as of 2 p.m.

The mayor and Board of Aldermen public meeting scheduled for Thursday evening has been canceled.
