Engines of train derail in Fairfax County
Two engines of a freight train pulling 50 cars full of gravel derailed Friday afternoon in the Springfield area of Fairfax County, authorities said.
No injuries were reported and none of the gravel spilled in the partial derailment of the Norfolk Southern train, according to county officials. It occurred about 5 p.m. near Wimsatt and Backlick Roads.
Officials of VRE, the commuter line that uses the same tracks, said the incident caused delays of between five and 10 minutes.
