Kids hurt in daycare van crash
Six children were taken to area hospitals with minor injuries and another nine were transported for checkups, after their day care van was involved in a crash with an SUV in the Glenn Dale area of Prince George’s County Tuesday afternoon, authorities said.
The crash occurred about 3:15 p.m. on Enterprise Road at Meadowland Drive, authorities said. Firefighters and paramedics arrived to find a Hummer SUV overturned on its side, with a man trapped inside, that had apparently been involved in a crash with a 15-passenger van loaded with children and dayc are aides.
Firefighters worked for nearly 15 minutes to remove the man from the SUV, and he was taken to a hospital with serious but non-life threatening injuries, authorities said. Of the 15 children inside the van, six required medical attention and were taken to hospitals with injuries thought to be non-serious. The other nine children and three adults, the driver of the van and two aides, were taken to an area hospital in a Fire/EMS Department bus for evaluation, authorities said. The children ranged in age from 6 to 11, authorities said.
It remains unclear what caused the crash.
