Va. boy brings gun to school

By Washington Post editors

A 12-year-old middle school student brought an unloaded handgun to school Monday and pointed it at his head before a teacher took it away, Prince William County police said.

Police were called to Potomac Middle School shortly before 8 a.m. Monday. Authorities said the boy showed the gun to other students at the bus stop. He and the other students rode the bus to school, and when they got off, he pulled the gun out from his pocket and pointed it at his head.

A teacher took the gun away and brought the boy to the office.

Police said the boy will be charged with possession of a weapon on school property.

Wait a minute here, I thought we had the right to carry in ol' Virginia? We apparently have the right to rewrite history

Oh mjcc1987, please! This was a child, who took a gun to school! HELLO? Get off your panty waist "taking my guns away" platform and realize there is a "NO TOLERANCE" rule in ALL schools where guns are concerned...

If YOU think that kid was using his best judgment, then I question yours!

Sign me: One who remembers Columbine. And before and after.

The parents are the source of this problem. Guns should be kept locked up around children, no exceptions. The parents should be charged, not the child. This is not a gun problem it is a parent problem.

A 12-year-old brings a gun to school to commit suicide, and all anyone seems concerned about is whether he should be charged? Seriously, people, this isn't about gun rights. Someone tell me there's more to this story and that this child is getting some much-needed crisis intervention therapy to treat an illness that is driving him to want to kill himself.

The child needs counseling... not charges!

What is up with Ole Virginny and guns?

If he had pointed the gun at anyone they would say it was attempted murder, but since he only pointed the gun at himself, they will not equally say it was attempted suicide. That's because the issue is gun-hating, not the safety of students.

The kid and the parents just thought it was the usual Virginia TAKE YOUR GUN TO SCHOOL DAY. I mean where else are they to learn about GUN SAFETY. Not like the parents are doing that for the kid.

I mean the kid has to be ready for the TEABAG Summit on the RIGHT TO BEAR ARMS
