Report: Tornado touches in Caroline Co.
A tornado reportedly touched down in Caroline County late Wednesday afternoon, but no damage was reported there, as storms raked through central Virginia.
A woman in Mechanicsville was struck on the head when a tree fell on her car as she ran for shelter, said Capt. Michael J. Trice of the Hanover County sheriff's office. Two homes in the county were damaged so extensively by high winds and storm debris that they were considered uninhabitable, Trice said. Dozens of other homes and businesses suffered less damage.
The reported tornado, at Fort AP Hill, occurred about 4:45 p.m.
Storm damage in central Virginia was still being assessed late Wednesday night, as the storm headed toward southern Maryland.
