Arlington gets new county manager
This post has been updated.
Arlington County has appointed Barbara Donnellan as its new county manager following the resignation Thursday of former County Manager Michael B. Brown. Brown cited personal reasons for the resignation.
"This action is regrettable but necessary because of the health of my wife, Linda Lee," Brown wrote. "I need to take now to assist her. That is proving difficult because of the work and time demands of the position of county manager."
Donnellan has been with the county for 27 years, including serving as head of the Department of Management and Finance and deputy county manager. She served as acting county manager from November 2009 until about four months ago when Brown was hired.
Donnellan is the first woman to be named county manager in Arlington.
