Fairfax woman killed in car accident

By Washington Post editors

A Fairfax County woman was killed Thursday night in car crash, authorities said.

A 17-year-old boy was driving a Ford Mustang west on Lee Highway about 10:09 p.m. when a Volkswagen Passat headed east turned left onto Waples Mill Road, according to a Fairfax County Police news release. The two vehicles then collided.

Raj Grover, 60, of the 12000 block of Ridgemist Lane, was a passenger in the Passat. She was pronounced dead at Inova Fairfax Hospital, police said. The driver of the Passat, a 65-year-old man, and the 17-year-old driver of the Mustang were taken to the hospital and treated for non-life-threatening injuries.

Both drivers had green lights, police said, and neither speed nor alcohol appeared to be factors in the crash.

Investigators ask anyone with information about this incident to call Crime Solvers at 1-866-411-TIPS/8477, reach them online , text information and “TIP187” to CRIMES/274637 or call Fairfax County Police at 703-691-2131.

Um, no. Both drivers did NOT have greens. That is a left turn on arrow only signal. So either the driver making the turn or the westbound Mustang driven by a 17-year-old ran a red light. Guess which one my money's on?

I do not believe there is a turn arrow at the intersection of Lee Hwy (Rte 29) and Waples Mill/Shirley Gate Rd.

There is, however, one at Lee-Jackson Hwy (Rte 50) and Waples Mill.
