Funerals begin for Appomattox shooting victims
Funerals have begun for eight people killed in a rampage at a quiet country homestead near Appomattox last week.
About 100 cars filled the parking lot at a Lynchburg funeral home at a Sunday afternoon service for 15-year-old Appomattox resident Morgan Leigh Dobyns. Other services are set for later in the week.
Dobyns died Tuesday along with her mother, Laura Dobyns Sipe, stepfather Dwayne Sipe and 4-year-old brother Joshua Sipe. Also killed were 15-year-old Emily Quarles, her parents Jonathan and Karen Quarles, and 16-year-old Ronnie “Bo” Scruggs.
Thirty-nine-year-old Christopher Speight is being held without bond on a single murder charge. More charges are expected. The killings occurred at a home jointly owned by Speight and the Sipes.
