JMU band in London New Year's parade

By Associated Press

James Madison University's marching band will start 2011 in London for the city's New Year's Day Parade.

More than 250 members of the Marching Royal Dukes will depart Dec. 27 for London's 25th New Year's Day parade. They'll be among 24 marching bands and more than 8,000 performers from around the world.

According to parade organizers, the London parade attracts more than 500,000 spectators.

The News Leader of Staunton reports this is the fifth tour abroad for the marching band, which was formed in 1972.

My high school band did this in 1999. It was a great honor and everyone had a blast. Congrats to the JMU band, enjoy your trip.
