Man struck in throat by softball dies

By Washington Post editors

A man died Saturday afternoon after being hit in the throat by a line drive during a softball game in Virginia, Leesburg Today reports.

The man, who had not yet been identified, was pitching in a game held at the Potomac Lakes Sportsplex when the softball struck him in the throat. Loudoun County Fire-Rescue crews were able to stabilize him at the scene and get him to Inova Fairfax Hospital. But authorities say he later died.

Officials say he aspirated on sunflower seeds he was chewing.

Two hours later, Loudoun County Fire-Rescue crews were called to Eagle Ridge Middle School where a teenager collapsed while playing basketball. The 15-year-old boy, who is from New York, suffered cardiac arrest. He was being treated at Inova Fairfax Hospital.

ouch! cant imagine how that felt. terrible thing to happen in such a relaxed setting. i hope the fella that hit the ball can forgive himself. hope the basketball kid is ok as well. 15yrs and cardiac arrest is highly uncommon.
