Suspect photos released in Calif. killing
The Oakland police department is seeking the public’s help in identifying two suspects seen in surveillance video taken moments before the Sunday killing of a Fairfax man who was in the San Francisco Bay area for a job interview.
Jing Hong Kang, 45, was shot to death around 11:30 p.m. during a robbery in downtown Oakland shortly after leaving a dentist's office, police said. Kang, a computer engineer and a father of three, had a scheduled job interview with Google Inc. the next day, according to published reports.
The Oakland Tribune reported that Kang and an acquaintance were standing outside Kang’s parked rental car in the 1900 block of Webster Street when the suspects approached them. Police told the newspaper the assailants stole $17 from Kang.
The acquaintance, a dentist with whom Kang had just finished an appointment, initially told police the attackers were two men, the Tribune reported. She later told police she recognized the man and the woman in the video, Sgt. Mike Gantt told the newspaper.
Police released surveillance footage from cameras at a nearby office building that they say shows a man and woman walking toward the site of the killing, Gantt told KTVU.
Police said one individual seen in the images is a black woman between 18 and 25 years old, between 5-foot-3 and 5-foot-6, weighing between 140 and 150 pounds, wearing a multi-colored jacket and gray pants. The other individual is described as a black man between 18 and 25 years old, between 5-foot-8 and 5-foot-10, weighing between 160 and 170 pounds, wearing a black hooded sweat shirt and blue jeans.
Police are offering a $20,000 reward for information leading to the suspects’ arrest. They are asking anyone with information to call 510-238-7230.
