Va. Rep. Jim Moran and wife separate
Rep. James P. Moran (D-Va.) and businesswoman LuAnn Bennett are separating after six years of marriage, the lawmaker's office announced Thursday.
"After much thought and consideration, we have decided to separate," Moran and Bennett said in a joint statement released by his office. "While our marriage may be ending, our friendship and respect for one another is not. We will continue to be supportive of one another as we move forward with our lives. We ask that you respect our privacy in this matter as the decision we have made is a deeply personal one that affects not only us, but our families as well."
Moran and Bennett married in the summer of 2004; the marriage was his third and her second. Bennett is a longtime fixture in the D.C.-area business world. She is the president and owner of the Bennett Group, a real estate development and management firm, and has served on the boards of several nonprofits, including the National Children's Museum.
The couple has assets worth more than $2 million, according to Moran's financial disclosure forms. The vast majority of their wealth comes from Bennett's ownership share in the Bennett Group.
