Officers were investigating the incident on Route 1 near Dawn Drive about 10 p.m., Fairfax County police said. The woman, who police believe had been shopping at a Target store near that location just before the accident, was taken to a hospital with critical injuries.

Are you sure that it was truly an "accident", WaPo? Have you or the police definitively ruled out negligence?

The way people speed from stop sign to stop sign in my one block, I should ask for a speed bump. However, I would probably be shot and killed.

The way people were driving yesterday I am surprised more people did not get hurt. The drivers are out of control. You cannot go on a green light, cross in a cross walk without fear of being hit.
