D.C. water-main breaks disrupt service
Broken water mains disrupted water service in three District neighborhoods Friday: the Dupont Circle area, downtown and the Marshall Heights area of Southeast.
The downtown break, involving an eight-inch-diameter main on Massachusetts Avenue NW between 4th and 5th streets was expected to have a high impact on customers, the District’s Water and Sewer Authority said. It was scheduled to be repaired by about 5 p.m.
Repairs were also expected to be completed by 5 p.m. on Drake Place SE, where an eight-inch main broke between 53 and 54th streets, WASA said.
WASA said it expected repairs on an six-inch main on 18th Street NW between R and S streets would take until about 11:30 p.m. However, a resident of the street said it appeared by about 8:30 that all work had been completed and that service had been restored.
