Tornado watch for DC area
The National Weather Service has issued a tornado watch for the Washington area that is in effect until 1 p.m.
Heavy and steady rains also could cause flash flooding in the area, and officials warn motorists to be on the lookout for dangerous standing water as the morning commute gets underway.
The tornado watch is in effect for the District, and around the Washington region. It includes Montgomery and Prince George's Counties in Maryland, and the Northern Virginia area.
The tornado watch also includes areas in Delaware, New Jersey and North Carolina.
