How About a Little Heat for Other Swimmers?
By Laura Elkins
Washington
As a resident who lives just a few blocks from the Takoma Community Center, I was very upset that a $75,000 heater was installed in the outdoor pool at Hains Point. Ward 4 has one of the few indoor children’s pools in the city. However, it has been so poorly heated for so long that many children, including my own, refuse to go anymore.
As our mayor knows, pools offer wonderful exercise, especially for young children during bad weather. While the Hains Point pool probably does service more competitive swimmers, how many young people aren’t able to access an important form of play and exercise because someone decided heating the mayor’s outdoor workout pool was more important?
