UDC’s Community College Mission
By Allen L. Sessoms
Washington
We welcome President Obama’s support of community colleges and know firsthand the benefits these institutions provide for their students and their communities.
Since 1977, the University of the District of Columbia has integrated community college classes and programs within its four-year flagship school. Next month, we will inaugurate a stand-alone community college, offering more than 20 associate degree and certificate programs as well as over 25 workforce development programs to prepare students for successful careers and academic advancement.
Our community college will deliver what the president is calling for: innovative, results-driven programs that enrich our city with educated, qualified students, ready to work and contribute to its overall prosperity and quality of life.
