My Endorsement: McDonnell's Life of Service
The Post is asking readers to make the case for their favored candidate in the Virginia governor’s race in 200 words or less.

Supports: Robert F. McDonnell
Party Identification: Republican
2005 Vote: Jerry W. Kilgore
As the mother of an Army ROTC cadet, I understand what it means for Robert F. McDonnell to have graduated from the University of Notre Dame with an Army ROTC scholarship, not to mention 21 years of service to our country in the Army: service, sacrifice, discipline, dedication, perseverance and courage.
In other words, character.
The fact that he encouraged his daughter to do the same speaks volumes about his true feelings about working women.
To submit your own endorsement, write to letters@washpost.com with “My Endorsement” in the subject line. Include your party identification, if any, as well as how you voted in Virginia’s last governor’s race. Finally, please include a day and evening phone number (not for publication) and a note disclosing any connection you have to Sen. R. Creigh Deeds or Robert F. McDonnell, their campaigns or the Democratic or Republican parties.

You don't think character matters; I do. And as for Republican claptrap, as a matter of fact, I am a registered Republican but vote as an Independent. My credentials? I have twice in the recent past voted for the Democratic candidate for president, and my vote for my Fairfax County rep always goes to the Democrat, because she is the best candidate. There are actually many reasons why I will vote for McDonnell...as will Sheila Johnson, a highly placed, lifelong Democrat, who agrees with me that Bob is the best candidate for governor of Virginia.

Is that a valid reason to vote for someone? I really don't think so. As you are a self-identified Republican, why should I as someone Independent treat your comments as anything other than partisan claptrap?
