How to trash the National Mall

By washingtonpost.com editors

In response to Matt Engel’s post “How to fix the Mall”:

Yes, that’s just what we need: More restaurants, shops, cafes to open and then go out of business, and more trash. Plus those nonporous walks Mr. Engel talks about, so that we have more runoff into our rivers.

As a lifelong resident of Maryland, one of my great pleasures is going to the Mall to enjoy the marvelous museums and then sitting on a bench and relaxing amid the breathtaking beauty of the Capitol and the Washington Monument and all that they mean to this country.

Mr. Engel’s suggestion should go no farther than the recycle bin, as it already has in my house.
