The real drag on Montgomery's budget

By editors

By Mike Mancuso

Montgomery County Executive Isiah Leggett and the County Council are facing serious budget problems that will dramatically impact the quality of life for county residents. Numerous articles, letters to the editor and statements by politicians point the budget-busting finger at the unions that represent our police, firefighters, teachers and other county workers.

As a recently retired Montgomery police officer, I find these accusations insulting to the dedicated employees of this county. No one from Mr. Leggett on down has seriously addressed the No. 1 budget problem: an ever-increasing population of illegal immigrants that is rapidly depleting our tax dollars and services. Mr. Leggett and the council’s “don’t ask, don’t tell” policy for illegal aliens and their families has caused a huge influx of residents without “legal presence” in Montgomery County.

While these residents can no longer get a driver’s license, there are no restrictions on enrolling their children in schools, qualifying for in-county college tuition, obtaining medical, dental, mental health, prescription drug, housing, food and energy assistance, job opportunities and training, and more. Yes, there is a free lunch and a lot more in Montgomery.

It’s time for Mr. Leggett and the County Council to address this major problem area of the budget. Why should dedicated employees and taxpayers of Montgomery County suffer because of the county’s ineffective approach to illegal immigration?

Amen. I tend not to be one who sticks up for unions but by far this is the most non-talked about issue affecting MoCo.

Extra costs due to illegal aiens come in all shapes and sizes. The cost of interpreters(hospitals, ERs, courts), costs of unemployment pay, lower wages, money sent out of our country by job-stealing illegal aliens. Teen unemployment is 28%(40% for blacks) so our young people are deprived of entry level jobs where a strong work ethic is learned. There will be a cost there. The 'new welfare queens' and their 'dependents' add medical costs(stiffing the medical provider on bills), WIC, education, free food, lost teacher time for American students. Tha's barely scratching the surface.

Not all that long ago, the Post ran an article about Montgomery County's "need" to build new schools its taxpayers can ill afford to accommodate population increases driven by illegal immigration. Not that the paper mentioned that last. Illegal immigration is NOT a victimless crime. Its victims are the American taxpayers and American children who must compete in overcrowded classrooms for attention and a substandard education.

What is the argument here? every single alien "BROKE THE LAW!" Our Government, past & present, Republican & Democrat, have allowed the invasion of 20 to 30 million criminals and uneducated peons which is the largest invasion of any Nation, at any time, by any means & in direct violation of Article IV, Section IV of our Constitution.

This refusal to abide by our Constitution or enforce our Immigration Laws should be classified as Treason of the most foul kind, & as grounds for impeachment & trials for Treason!

Not only have they allowed the invasion, they force American tax payers to pay Billions on Billions of dollars to provide Welfare, Prison cells, Educate the invaders numerous children, and free medical care, at the same time the invading horde break numerous laws and massive document fraud, & are destroying our schools, hospitals, communities, culture and standard of living while Robbing, Raping, Killing & Assaulting American Citizens WAKE UP PEOPLE!

End Illegal Immigration in Maryland. Stop Montgomery County funding of CASA de Maryland, Centro Familia and Identity Inc, organizations that attract and sustain illegal aliens.

One of those "budget-busting unions" is the SEIU. The SEIU's official position is that they support amnesty for illegal aliens. They call it "immigration reform", but that's just a code word for amnesty.

Every non-exempt worker (that is - everyone other than teachers and administrators) in Montgomery County Public Schools is forced to join the SEIU and pay their outrageous union dues, and those union dues are then funneled to politicians who support CASA De Maryland, Identity, and illegal immigration in general.

While the taxpayers are picking up the tab for the illegals, there are plenty of people making money selling them services, products, etc. They have no interest in seeing their customers deported. The illegals are pumping up the dwindling consumer base.

It's time for Maryland to rid itself of every single illegal alien and their illegitimate farts en masse, and then get back to servicing the people who pays for the services.

The unions are a big part of the budget crisis in Montgomery County. If the unions say jump, the County Council asks how far. It seems that the unions get what they want, when they want it.
However, the unions aren't our biggest problem. The illegals that this County welcomes with open arms are bleeding our county dry - all because Isiah Leggett and company are protecting them! It is very clear that without any support for the illegal immigrant population/programs, that Montgomery County would not be anywhere near as deep in the red as we are today. County Council - WAKE UP!!!!
One would think that the Statue of Liberty was on the doorstep of Montgomery County with it's inscription "Give me your tired, your poor, Your huddled masses.......".
It is time for not only the Montgomery County taxpayers, but the American taxpayers as a whole to stand up and be heard and send the message to our elected leaders that if they will not stand up for us, then we will have no choice but to boot them out of office. If our elected leaders are going to cater to the illegals and their support groups, then they are selling our county and our Country down the river.
It is time for the taxpayers to stand up and be counted and take our country back!!!

Now that the Hutaree "rural Michigan-based Christian militia" conspiracy to "to kill a police officer and then slaughter scores more by bombing the funeral, all in hopes of touching off an uprising against the government" has been exposed, will law enforcement agencies begin profiling Christians?

Will Pat Robertson now call for treating Christians "as we would members of the Communist Party," "some fascist group"? Will he declare Christianity "is 'a violent religion,' to call it a 'religion of peace' is "nonsense"? Will he state Christianity "is not a religion, it is a political system ... bent on world domination"?

Will Glenn beck now avow to all Christian congressmen "[W]hat I feel like saying is, 'Sir, prove to me that you are not working with our enemies?'" Will Mr. Beck warn Christians "who have sat on [their] frickin' hands" and have not "lin[ed] up to shoot the bad" Christians "in the head"

Michael Savage, Neal Boortz, Michelle Malkin, and Rush Limbaugh: will they now demonize Christianity as they have Moslem terrorist conspiractors?

When Hell freezes over, pigs fly, and Birthers support Obama.

It'as both the unions and illegal immigrants. The county never says "no" to either one.

Unfortunately, the people that are least impacted YET by illegal immigration (and the ones who have had the most to gain from illegal labor) live in the wealthier areas of the county. Think about it, if there were gangs in Churchill, W.J., Wooton, or Whitman-this immigration enforcement would be a non-issue. As it is the rich have had "undocumented" maids, nannies, and landscapers for years now. When the wave began after the first amnesty and the gang problem was first prevalent, the council and executive under the pressure of the real estate companies said "No, MoCo has no gang issues." These gang members were the children and nephews of the nannies and maids and landscapers. The "help" lived in Langley Park or Silver Spring, why should any of the council members care? They don't send their kids to the LOCAL public school (and if they do you know darn well the principal makes sure little Aidan doesn't gt his lunch money taken.) Why should any of the entitled people in Bethesda care about lowered social conditions in Silver Spring? They need someplace close (but not TOO close) to house there "help." And as to all the upper crusties on the board of Centro Familia and the like-what better way to ease their conscience and make themselves sleep better at night than handing out bennies to their "undocumented employees" on the ENTIRE county's tab? That way we can all share in the "celebration of diversity." Only when the demographics are dealt with and there is a "cultural balance" at all schools countywide will the council do anything. Let's make it fair or get the problem out. Yes indeed when the Latin kings and MS 13 start going to Whitman then it will be dealt with.

Montgomery County spends 250 million dollars a year on illegal immigrants. Thanks to Leggett and the County Council, that says it all. Stop funding those self serving groups like Casa and Identity Inc. who use the taxpayers money against the county to press their agenda for illegals. Also, if an illegal immigrant commits any crime, deport them.

Thank you, Mr. Mancuso, for having the courage to write the truth from an insider's perspective. Illegal immigration and its costs have had a huge impact on the quality of life in Montgomery County, and I'm very disappointed in our elected leaders for making my hometown a sanctuary for those who are, by very definition, criminals.

Congratulations on getting your letter published. I'm surprised the Post's pro-Amnesty editorial board let it slip through.

While I agree with the posters who say it is BOTH the unions and the illegal immigrants busting the budget, I would have an easier time feeling sympathy for Mr. Mancuso were it not that the largest public employees union, the SEIU, is an ardent supporter of illegal immigrants. The two groups are just different sides of the same problem.

Your comments are exactly right. We are importing poverty and crime and it is spreading. Wheaton, Takoma Park, Silver Spring, Gaithersburg all gone with other areas not far behind. But Leggitt thinks supporting this will get him votes. All it is really going to get him is voted out and replaced by the very people he thinks he is paying for their votes.

Remember we spend millions supporting La Raza which translates into "The Race". We are just plain suicidal.

Democrats will "Rahm" through Amnesty for all 15,000,000 ILLEGALS This Year!

The Washington Post should be writing their own editorial endorsing the Homeland Security's Assistant Inspector General Frank Deffer who last week said----"Clearly to us the system could not handle it (AMNESTY) now"!!Deffer called a Mass Amnesty "The Mother of all Backlogs".

"Clearly to us the system--COULD NOT HANDLE IT NOW"!

Yet President Obama will pass Amnesty this year even though 70% of LEGAL Americans oppose Amnesty.

Democrats have the votes and will vote in Lockstep with OBAMA. We are no longer a "A Nation of Laws" as President Obama used to say in his speeches. Americans have learned that it is not what he says--it is what he does.

Under Obama Illegal Aliens are no longer "criminals". Rather they have to murder or Rape before they are considered "Criminals". As if breaking into the United States of America is OK with him.

No background check, no English, false identity---NO PROBLEMWe'll teach you how to vote!
The President has started an OPEN Border policy and gives work permits instead of Jail time and deportation.

Sadly,I am a proud American no more--I now believe that The Tea Party Movement is our only hope. We are not Extremists unless ENFORCEING OUR Nation's Laws is Extremism

Yes, the illegals do add to the budget but so do the unions. One big problem brought on by the union is the disability retirement abuses by the many police officers. In 2008, the post reported that 62% of retirements in the past 5 years were disability. Since those articles, it is closer to 100% including the righteous Mike Mancuso. Both he and his wife are retired on disability from MCP. For those that do not know, disability retirement is greater then regular retirement and TAX free so Mancuso should quit complaining, he pays no taxes!!!!!

Posted by: voteoutthelibs1 | April 1, 2010 7:36 PM | Report abuse

I agree with the previous comments for change and to vote out the liberals in Montgomery County. I detect some jealousy in the comments about the disability retirement. The facts are that this issue has received considerable media attention and decided on by the County Council with new rules and procedures in place. This is unlike the issue about the cost of illegal aliens in MC that the media has ignored. If you own a home in MC, you are paying taxes that support illegal aliens. The workforce in MC, teachers, police, fire rescue and others are doing their job without bias towards illegals. Teachers have classrooms full of non-English speaking students who get special services. To know that they are not getting any pay raises due to the costs of the huge influx of illegals is unfair. Surrounding jurisdictions are enforcing laws that make illegal aliens move to MC. It is the policy of Leggett and the Council that encourages illegals to come to MC that is the issue. Stop blaming the dedicated employees of MC.

Posted by: soony | April 2, 2010 10:52 PM | Report abuse

Right on. I can not agree more with the fact that Montgomery County is ignoring the deficit caused by illegal immigration. I have been to open forums were Ike Legget was presented with facts and figures but stated that he chose not to believe the facts or figures. Mr. Leggett therefore supports this crimal activity and is guilty of harboring a crimals. This is a large issue not only for Montgomery County but for Maryland and other states as well. These people have committed a crime and now they are being rewared for their crime. The County, State, and yes the Country can no longer pay the cost of this criminal behavor. Yes the free lunch has to end. It is time for the citizens of Montgomery County to send a message to the Council and Mr. Leggett that we are tired of supporting crimial behavor by voting them out in the next election.

Posted by: amtm | April 3, 2010 10:48 AM | Report abuse

This is really a "no brainer".We need police, firefighters, teachers, and other public servants who preform a service for the citizens. We do not need illegal aliens sucking up our tax dollars. What part of "illegal" is it that Ike Legget doesn't understand?!!

Posted by: lsf07 | April 5, 2010 2:45 PM | Report abuse

Mr. Mancuso is exactly right. It sounds like voteoutthelibs1 has a little bit (underestimate) of jealousy issues. Let's stick to the issue at hand. We pay way too much for illegal immigration.
