Protesters with selective outrage
By Cheryl Braunstein
Washington
I am appalled at the notion of armed protesters gathering to protest “the Democratic Congress’s capitulation to a ‘totalitarian socialism’ that tramples individual rights.”
Where were the protesters in 2001 when a Republican-led Congress passed and a Republican president signed the so-called Patriot Act, which allows for indefinite detention of legal immigrants, searches of citizens’ private homes without their knowledge, and review of their phone and e-mail communications and medical, financial and library records without a warrant or court order?
