Briar Woods Golfers Edge Potomac Falls

One day after setting a school record with a first ever under-par team score, the Briar Woods Falcons were at it again against Potomac Falls on Thursday at Brambleton Golf Course.

Sophomore Adam Ochs led the way with a team-low 35 and senior Jon Howard carded an even-par 36 to lead the Falcons to a 152-161 victory. The team's other senior, Nathan Burcak, shot a respectable 40 to continue his consistent play thus far while Troy Ioannou managed a 41 to finish in fourth place overall. Freshmen Nick Vazzana and Mary-Beth Mitchell - competing in her first high school match - finished the scoring with a 42 and 54 respectively to round out the Falcons' third straight victory over the Panthers.

Coach Bob Vitti awarded "shot of the day" honors to Ochs for a laser approach within six feet on the fifth from a steep downhill lie, and Howard's dead center drive on the narrow seventh.

Next week the Falcons take on non-district AAA Chantilly at Brambleton for a challenge match before tangling with long-time district rivals and defending Dulles District champions Loudoun County in a match that could easily determine the outcome of the district race this year. That match will take place at Westpark Golf Club in Leesburg next Thursday afternoon.
