Friday Night Scores and Highlights
The unbeaten teams stayed perfect, three Dulles District squads ran away with big wins and Heritage picked up its first Cedar Run victory on a busy night in Loudoun.
Here are the scores and highlights from all the action...
No. 4 Broad Run 34, Dominion 9
The Spartans dominated their hosts in the trenches, pounding the ball on the ground and taking advantage of short fields in the first half. The second half was brutally long and filled with penalties and officiating issues, but Broad Run got the job done and is now alone atop the district.
Park View 37, Potomac Falls 0
Think the Patriots had any recollection of last season's first-ever loss to Potomac Falls...on their home field? This result certainly makes me think so... Daryus Beale had two first quarter touchdown runs of more than 40 yards and Brandon Lee ran for two scores and threw for another as the Patriots did all their damage in the first half and gave the starters the second half off. Andy Hill said the highlight of the night was Kevin Flamenco's 49-yard field goal, which would have been a 50-yarder, had the holder moved the tee back a foot.
Loudoun County 23, Briar Woods 3
The Raiders got back on track with a blowout win as Austin Campbell threw two touchdown passes to Michael Ayoub and County's defense returned to form. The Falcons avoided the shutout with David Clements' 20-yard field goal as time expired.
George Mason 14, Freedom 9
The Eagles' skid continues as they dropped their fourth straight, this one to the single-A Mustangs.
Heritage 19, Stonewall Jackson 13
The Pride picked up the 'W' in their first "real" Cedar Run contest - previous matchups with Valley and Osbourn didn't factor into the standings since they'll see both teams again before the season is out. Sophomore QB Austin Nelson continued his strong campaign with 172 and two touchdowns through the air and Heritage was able to overcome 11 penalties for 110 yards and 206 yards rushing and two scores from Stonewall's Jerry Budd.
Osbourn 39, Loudoun Valley 29
The Vikings led this one until the fourth quarter, but were undone by three straight touchdowns from the Eagles to close out the game. Thomas Keith passed for 140 yards and a touchdown and rushed for 170 yards and another score. For the Vikes, Andrew Taylor was 17 of 30 for 197 yards, three touchdowns and a pick.
No. 11 Stone Bridge 28, Fairfax 20
The Bulldogs showed a little vulnerability against the newest team to join the Liberty District. Stone Bridge never trailed and got another great effort from Marcus Harris, who finished with 205 yards and a score on 22 carries, but the Lions kept it close as Jack Bechert threw for 117 yards and three touchdowns in the loss.
