Top 5 Power Poll: Week 7

Each Wednesday I rank the top five teams in Loudoun and include some insight on why I ranked them the way I did. There was no movement this week as the top four teams took care of business while Loudoun Valley led Osbourn late before losing its second straight. You also get district standings, VHSL playoff rankings and a new feature: your chance to rank the top teams in Loudoun!

1. (No. 3) Broad Run (7-0)
Previous Rank: 1
Last Week: def. Dominion 34-9
This Week: Friday at Freedom (2-4), 7:30
The Spartans used defense and a balanced attack to knock off the Titans and take over sole possession of first place in the district. Friday night's matchup with reeling Freedom should provide a good opportunity to focus on correcting the mistakes they made against Dominion - read: return game - while preparing for next Friday's big matchup with Loudoun County.

2. (No. 11) Stone Bridge (6-0)
PR: 2
Last Week: def. Fairfax 28-20
This Week: Friday vs. Madison (3-3), 7:30
The Bulldogs have been relying entirely on the running game and their defense to power them through close contests so far this season. They'll need better ball control on offense in order to keep Madison from mounting the lengthy, clock-grinding drives they're notorious for producing. It's homecoming in Ashburn, but Stone Bridge needs to stay focused in order to keep its Liberty District winning streak alive.

3. Park View (4-2)
PR: 3
Last Week: def. Potomac Falls 37-0
This Week: Friday vs. Martinsburg (W.Va.) 5-1, 7:30
The Patriots are picking up steam just in time for a matchup with one of the top teams in West Virginia. Martinsburg already handled Potomac Falls and Briar Woods but Park View will be looking to stop the run through the Dulles District with a strong performance at home on Friday night. Daryus Beale is coming off his best game of the season and will need to be on again on what's shaping up to be a cold, wet night in Sterling.

4. Loudoun County (5-1)
PR: 4
Last Week: def. Briar Woods 23-3
This Week: Friday vs. Dominion (3-3), 7:30
After that frustrating loss to Park View, the Raiders responded in a big way against Briar Woods. Next up is a Dominion squad dealing with injuries but out to prove they still belong in the Division 3 playoff conversation. If County wants to have a shot at the district title when they meet Broad Run next Friday, this is an absolute must-win.

5. Loudoun Valley (3-3)
PR: 5
Last Week: lost to Osbourn 39-29
This Week: Saturday vs. Stonewall Jackson (3-4), 7:30
The Vikings are hanging on by a thread. They need a win against Stonewall to hold onto this spot and more importantly, get back on their feet in the Cedar Run.

On the Bubble: Heritage (2-4), Dominion (3-3)
