Volleyball: Spartans Edge Heritage in Encore
For anyone worried Broad Run might experience a let down in its follow up to Tuesday's big win at Loudoun County, feel free to put those fears to rest.
In another intense, back-and-forth match with a familiar opponent, the Spartans (8-3, 6-0) finally got the better of Heritage in their third meeting of the season, edging the Pride 25-23, 31-29, 27-25.
Broad Run sophomore Mallory Brickerd - one of the heroes against the Raiders - had another great performance with 14 kills and 14 digs, senior libero Lizzie Deane added 19 digs and senior Carolyn Pearce chipped in 21 assists and nine digs.
Following a 6-0 start to the season, the Pride (7-6) have dropped six of seven against a very tough non-district schedule. It doesn't get any easier when they host Battlefield on Tuesday in a Cedar Run matchup.
For the Spartans:
Elisa Scudder – 10 kills, 2 solo & 1 assist block
Mallory Brickerd – 14 kills, 14 digs, 1 ace
Emily Sears – 8 kills, 2 solo & 1 assist block
Lizzie Deane – 19 digs
Molly Maloney – 4 aces, 18 assists
Carolyn Pearce – 21 assists, 1 ace, 9 digs
For the Pride:

Emma Le Maitre - 11 kills, 5 points, 6 digs

In other area action, Loudoun Valley stayed unbeaten in Cedar Run play, sweeping Osbourn 25-15, 25-12, 25-16. The Vikings are now 8-4 on the season and 3-0 in the district.
