Mike Stukel to Slot Back
The Midshipmen will find a way to get sophomore Mike Stukel into the rotation at slot back this Saturday, Coach Ken Niumatalolo said.
Stukel, who came to Navy as a quarterback and switched positions at the end of spring practice, was impressive at slot back during the preseason; at one point, he was listed as a starter. But when back-up quarterback Kriss Proctor went down with a knee injury, Stukel was moved back to quarterback to provide depth. Proctor returned to practice this week.
Stukel played a handful of snaps at quarterback towards the end of the win over Louisiana Tech, and rushed for 19 yards on three carries.
"He's going to play," Niumatalolo said. "We have great confidence in him, and he's one of our better players. We've got to find a way to get him on the field."
