Beard Named Eastern Conference Player of the Week

In what shouldn't be surprising news, Alana Beard was named the Eastern Conference player of the week after scoring a combined 51 points in games against Atlanta and Chicago. It is her fourth player of the week award in her career.

Seattle's Lauren Jackson was named the Western Conference player of the week and you can check out the league's full release here.

Finally, some respect for AB at last; apparently, she doesn't have a very good repuration around the league, which I find astounding, considering that she is a more consistent player that Tamika Catchings, and that she has been literally carrying the 'Stics since Holdsclaw left. I think she's great, and it's a crime that she has never been allowed to compete with the Olympic teams to win a gold medal.

I respect AB as a very skilled player. But while she seems to enjoy being a star, she's never been a team leader and has affirmatively disclaimed interest in that. And last season, she completely quit on the team and the fans. It was a totally unprofessional performance. I'm glad to see her playing well now, and I hope it keeps up.

congrats to AB. Maybe this is the season when she will provide 100% commitment each time she is on the floor, which has not always been the case. Hopefully, AB and her teammates will receive several POTW honors this season.
