Sky 68, Mystics 63
The Chicago Sky used a solid fourth-quarter push and big games from stars Candice Dupree and Sylvia Fowles to down the Mystics, 68-63, Saturday night at UIC Pavillion.
The loss was Washington's second straight and its third in the past four games.
Chicago's Dupree scored a game-high 23 points while Fowles notched a double-double with 13 points and 10 rebounds.
Lindsey Harding led the Mystics (4-3) with 15 points, Alana Beard added 14 and second-year center Crystal Langhorne notched another strong performance with 12 points and eight rebounds.
"They got going in the second half and Candice Dupree really stepped up,'' Washington Coach Julie Plank told the Associated Press. "I thought we really did a nice job on her last game, but [tonight] they really did a good job down the stretch on the boards and we weren't scoring. Their zone was effective down the stretch against us.''
The win moved the Sky (5-3) into second place in the Eastern Conference, a game behind Indiana (6-2).

Your turn, what do the Mystics have to do to get back to their early-season winning ways? And on a side note, was anyone else frustrated by the lack of a score and game clock on the Live Access broadcast?

Totally agree with the previous post. I am so tried of this team building me up to let me down. Coach Plank needs to realize that playing Harding and Beard so many minutes a game is not going to help us down the stretch. why did we sign Mann, was that to keep Marissa company on the bench? How many minutes have Blue played this season? 6 points, count em 2,4,6 points!!! between 2 professional post players in a game!?!?!?!
Calling on the GM(Angela) to make some changes and make them fast! this team is sliding down the ranks like they been greased up.

"was anyone else frustrated by the lack of a score and game clock on the Live Access broadcast?"
Perhaps you haven't been watching many Live Access games. The video is the feed going to the arena's jumbotron, which typically doesn't show the score or game clock, since those are on the scoreboard. I agree, it's a real drawback of Live Access, but that's still better than no video at all. (Atlanta's Live Access feed superimposes the score and clock; the WNBA should mandate this for the other arenas.)
As for the game itself, I'm not blaming Coach Plank. She's stuck with 2 starting post players who are underperforming, and it's no one's fault that Marissa is injured. Chas and Kia need to step up, and so does Mo (who should lose her starting spot as soon as Riss is back and in shape).

As much as I like Mo Currie, I must add that since Marissa went down the three spot is a problem and a weakness once again. Is Mo going to ever play up to potential?

I still don't understand why they didn't get rid of Currie and Sanford in the off-season when they were cleaning house. Supposedly, Currie worked on her game. I can't tell.

Get rid of Currie & Sanford?
Currie didn't have much trade value, and with Marissa on board, the SF position would've been OK, except then MC got hurt and now unfortunately we have to depend on Mo alone. ugh.
As for Sanford, other fans have told me she was signed to a 3-year guaranteed contract by the prior GM. So if that's true the new GM is stuck with her for this year and probably next. blah.
Maybe next season we can attract some top free agents. This year, coming off years of horrible play and coaching changes, no decent free agent wanted to have anything to do with Washington.
You can't turn an entire franchise around in a single season --- not one that's been as bad as this one!

I second what Purple Fan said, and also want to add that making trades and acquiring free agents are not unilaterally up to the team. A GM may want to trade player X, but have no takers, or none at an acceptable value. A GM can make a run at a free agent, but can't make her sign.
Let's hope that with the new professional management in place, and our great fans, and the fact that DC is a terrific city, this team will finally become one that free agents really will want to join.

I third what PurpleFan said, but we have got to do something if we want to stay in the playoff hunt. With Marissa in the lineup I feel that our perimeter is one of the best in the league, but you can't win consistently without a post presence. Bring someone else in (Chantelle). If the players already in place aren't doing anything how can the new person do any worse? If we have to keep Sandford and Melvin, waive Blue. She doesn't play anyway. Why is she still here?

Chasity Melvin and Nakia Sanford are receiving paychecks from the Mystics that aren't well earned.
The local sports media should stop being so cuddling with the Mystics. The Mystics weak links start with Melvin and Sanford, the team wont be successful until the weak links are address.
