Gameday: Sky at Mystics

From intern Ishita Singh:

In their last game before the All-Star break, the Mystics take on the Chicago Sky. The Mystics are coming off a tough loss on Tuesday to the Eastern Conference-leading Indiana Fever, and are looking to bounce back against a Chicago team that has gone 2-6 in July. Chicago is still only a half-game game behind Washington for third place in the East, so this will be a big game for the Mystics.

Tipoff: 7 p.m., Verizon Center, ESPN2.

What to Watch For

  • This will be the first time that former Terrapins Marissa Coleman and Kristi Toliver play against each other in the WNBA. Coleman and Toliver were teammates on the 2006 Maryland women's basketball team that won the NCAA Championship. Crystal Langhorne was also on that team.
  • These teams split their first two meetings of the season. Alana Beard scored a season-high 31 in a 81-72 win at home on June 20. A week later, the Sky won 68-63 in Chicago.
  • Since coming back from a high-ankle sprain, which forced her to sit six games, Marissa Coleman has had a tough time scoring. In five games, she's scored 27 points on 7 of 22 shooting.
  • Tonight's game features four All-Stars: the Mystics' Alana Beard, and the Sky's starters Candice Dupree and Sylvia Fowles, and reserve Jia Perkins. The All-Star game is Saturday, July 25 at 3:30 p.m. at Mohegan Sun in Connecticut.

Probable Starters
Washington: Monique Curry, Nakia Sanford, Chasity Melvin, Alana Beard, Lindsey Harding
Chicago: Candice Dupree, Jia Perkins, Sylvia Fowles, Dominique Canty, Brooke Wyckoff
