Mystics 84, Silver Stars 82
Alana Beard knocked down a 16-foot jumper with 1.9 seconds remaining Tuesday night to down the San Antonio Silver Stars and snap Washington's two-game losing streak.
Beard and Lindsey Harding led the visiting Mystics with 19 points apiece.
Sophia Young paced the Silver Stars with a game-high 21 points, while teammate Becky Hammon added 18.
It seemed unlikely that Beard would play the hero when she picked up her fifth foul just before the third-quarter buzzer, sending her to the bench.
But the Mystics' guard returned quickly as San Antonio trimmed Washington's lead from 12 points to just one.
With Beard back in the offense, the Mystics built the lead to nine with 2 minutes 42 seconds remaing. But Hammon then put on a one-woman show, scoring 11 of San Antonio's next 13 points, including a three-pointer to tie game at 82 with 14 seconds left.
Beard answered with her monster jumper, which may have at least temporarily halted the tailspin the Mystics found themselves in after their 3-0 start to the season.
"I had some stupid fouls," Beard told the Associated Press. "Usually I play well when I have a couple of fouls. [On the last shot] everybody in this league knows I want to go left. So they gave me all of my right, and I took what they gave me."

A very good road win for the Mystics, too bad the fans couldn't see the game via the WNBA's webcast.
Chasity Melvin scored 1 point in the game, she's a burden to the team.
