Presidents Day

(Can't decide. Presidents' Day? Presidents Day? Or, as Wikipedia provides as an option (thus proving once again that Wikipedia is not a source for actual information) President's Day?)

An update from the weekend (and it's my understanding that because of the aforementioned honorific holiday many of you still have more weekend to enjoy): Position players are almost all here (save for Bernie Castro, still en route, and Ronnie Belliard, just signed) and almost all have popped their heads into the clubhouse at one point or another. The main news from over the weekend is that Nick Johnson may not be ready until -- well, let's put it at the all-star break, just to give it some leeway. The Nationals are done making predictions. Along the same lines, Cristian Guzman says his shoulder still gets tired when he works out, and he's trying to build strength, and while no one is acting like it's a big deal they've asked for an MRI on the shoulder and they've signed Belliard and they've made it clear that if Guzman's not ready they can move Felipe Lopez back to shortstop and put Belliard at second.

So there's that.

Tomorrow: First full-squad workout. First game -- and we need them to start so we can get down to some serious evaluating -- is a week from Friday. Seems a long way off.

Trickle-down from Belliard: Tony Womack would seem unlikely to make the team. Perhaps the same is true for D'Angelo Jimenez, although he has more experience at shortstop. Of course, I say this, and none of these guys have even so much as worked out together.

Weather: Still cold. I'm serious. Predictions were for a 67-degree day, which would've been great. There's still a chill in the air. As I got on the elevator to come up to the press box, director of player personnel Bob Boone was on board as well. He had two fleeces and a jacket on, and no one accused him of being overdressed. Anyone thinking of coming down here should wait a weekend or two. Supposed to be warmer over the next few days. We'll see.

I'll get to the story on my apartment (which, again, really isn't very good), discuss the technicolor dream coats worn by rotation candidate Jerome Williams, give you a few updates on other players but eschew my weekend meals, which were generally unremarkable (though the sushi place is good, and -- shhhhhhhhh -- I actually went to Quizno's instead of Panera yesterday for lunch, a move about which I have significant guilt and from which I may never recover).

For now, time to get down to the clubhouse and get to work.
