Chico the man

(Again, easy for the headline writers, no?)

Matt Chico just lifted for pinch hitter Ryan Church:

4 IP, 2 H, 0 R, 0 ER, 2 BB, 2 K

Threw 64 pitches, 39 for strikes, so struggled with his control a bit.

(Scenes from spring training: Old guy in press box who serves as security or some such thing just screamed at like volume 11, "I HAD NOTHING TO DO SO I THOUGHT I'D CALL YOU AND SEE IF YOU WERE ALL RIGHT." It's a beautiful thing, to be here, I tell ya.)

So Chico was good again, basically. Too many pitches, particularly in the first, so it'll be interesting to hear what the reason was for that. And the Nationals took a 1-0 lead on a Joe Thurston bases-loaded single in the top of the fourth.

About to head down to chat with Jim Bowden about that Astacio thing. Will report back with what he said.

Given the defense behind him, that's like a no-hitter.

How does the defense look at this point in spring training? We would appreciate your views, even though you have missed some games. Not to jinx them, but the Nats seem to have played error-free ball in the last week or so.

So who is Joe Thurston and what's the deal with him? He seems to be doing pretty well in camp (One of the games I watched on MASN, he turned an amazing play off a shot Broadway had booted). Though, looking closer, his average is pretty soft, huh? Was he insurance in case Guz wasn't working and FLop had to be put back at short?

Don't get too used to Joe Thurston. He won't be around long. (Played for the Phillies last year, but who knew?)

We should all get used to Matt Chico. Matt Chico rules.
