We're in the midst of pregame intros

MASN's Bob Carpenter doing the honors right now. There's a band in the middle of the field and a guy whose head looks like a vaccuum-cleaner attachment, but I'm told he's a "beefeater."

There are, very disappointingly, clouds appearing in the sky. Still very, very pleasant out. I mean, get out here.

This is the last opener at RFK. Boz is already talking about the views in next year's park. But let's concentrate on RFK this year. The new PA guy is in place. Carpenter just introduced Manny Acta, who ran down the line and slapped fives. And even though the crowd is hardly in the stadium, Zimmerman just got a very, very healthy ovation.

They had these guys out there -- I think 16 of the 25 players -- at the gates before the game, greeting fans when they came in. It'd be pretty cool to be an 8-year-old, get a red hat for free, and have it be handed to you by Ryan Zimmerman or Chad Cordero, no? They were both at the gate that I saw.

This is a very regal rendition of the national anthem that's about to begin.

Oh, and keep in mind: Steinberg's here and blogging too, so check him out.

Giant American flag just unfurled. Covering entire outfield. About to have a moment of silence for DC's own Bowie Kuhn, the former commissioner who passed away last month.

US Army trumpets firing up. Sounds like beginning of "A Few Good Men." Literally, when the anthem fired up, the sun came out. Good sign? We're supposed to read into all that stuff, aren't we.

(Boz just pointed out (as I stood for the anthem but continued crafting the Journal) that "Red Smith and Ring Lardner didn't blog. Neither did Shakespeare." He is correct. I pointed out that, "Neither does Thomas Boswell.")

Fly-over just happened. Man, those things are loud. They're trying to fold up that gigantic flag right now. They don't seem to be doing it as Boy Scouts are taught, but whatever.

Please file your predictions for season after the post below. It's time to get this season started. Zero down, 162 to go.

Really glad to see the Journal continue. I'll say 69-93.
