New ballpark BP

Just came from the new ballpark, where Ryan Zimmerman, Ryan Church, Brian Schneider, Wily Mo Pena and Justin Maxwell took some batting practice. Fun event which gave a good feel of how much progress is being made down there. A laundry list of team officials attended, from Mark Lerner to Jim Bowden to Robert Tanenbaum and Ed Cohen.

Our ace photographer Jonathan Newton was on hand, and we should have some pics in the $1.50 edition tomorrow. Blogger Miss Chatter was there as well, and I'd imagine she'd have a ton of photos online before too long.

Let me say that the wind was blowing in, and it was pretty darn hard to hit balls out. WMP hit som monster shots down the left-field line. Zim, when his first rope fell short of the left-center field wall (or where the left-center field wall will be), looked at his teammates and joked, "It's still too far."

I understand I caused some concern when I listed 364 feet to one of the alleys in the $.35 edition. For some reason, the listing I used had that, and then 370 to the "deep alley", whatever that means. The signs they had up showed 377 to the right-center field alley and 370 in left-center, and they looked to be at the right spots. It's 409 to straightaway center.

"It's cool with a capital 'C'," Mark Lerner said. "I think we're sitting here watching that first ball go into the sky, it's thrilling."

I'll write more about this event in the paper tomorrow. For now, here's your lineups. Man, is it a perfect day for a game. Much better than last night. Enjoy.
